SFM Newsletter September 5th

Hello and welcome to the Sebastopol Farmers Market Community!  We hope that you will find time to visit us on this busy Labor Day weekend.  We also hope that you will consider all of the amazing farm workers who are dedicated to growing and harvesting food.  Please take time to show them the respect and gratitude that they deserve.  It’s not an easy job and often the conditions are less than ideal.  With much love and gratitude to those who grow the amazing food that we eat.. please join us in supporting them as essential members of our community.

 

With new mask recommendations in place, please be sensitive to those in our community who are taking extra precautions.  If you don’t have a mask, please give them space.

 

We are sad to announce that the Belly Dancers who usually perform for the market Labor Day Weekend, had to cancel. On stage this Sunday, please welcome local favorite Marcos Pereda playing Cuban Folk music

 

Time to plant your fall garden.. there are still lots of veggie, herb and native plant starts for your latest garden project.

 

For all of you organic wine and olive oil lovers.. Olivino and Terra Savia is back at the market. And with apple season underway.. Dean Farms is back with their local apples and apple products!

Visit the plaza and explore the food and craft vendors.. there’s something for everyone!

 

Make sure to grab some veggies for your picnic!!  This week’s amazing super delicious, nutrient dense, locally produced veggie offerings include sweet corn, sweet and hot peppers,  field cucumbers and heirloom tomatoes, tomatillos not to mention.. lettuces, microgreens, spinach, tot soi, bok choy, mustard greens, kales, collards, swiss chard, napa and other cabbages, salad radishes, turnips, carrots, beets,  leeks, potatoes, mushrooms, broccolis, cauliflowers, green beans, red onions, garlic, summer squashes, eggplants, herbs and so much more…

 

Stone fruit season is almost over and apples and pears are starting to arrive!! Enjoy peaches, nectarines, plums, pluots and for you berry lovers.. organic strawberries!!  Not to mention.. blackberries, FIGS, grapes and melons too! And Dates too! Don’t forget to pick up a juicy refreshing watermelon for your afternoon barbeque!!

 

Did someone say Flowers? Special treats from our local food and craft vendors too.

 

Look for farmer inspired products like organic nut butters, almonds and walnuts.  You will also find meats, cheeses, olive oil, wines, vinegar, dried fruits, olives, honey, herbal teas, jams, hot sauces and pesto, breads, pastries and other homemade treats are just some of what you will find at the market.

Thank you for supporting your local small farmers especially now when they need you most.  The drought and extreme temperatures have had a devastating impact. It’s important that we all do our part to save our most precious resources.. water, farmers and locally produced food.
