SFM Newsletter August 29th

Hello All of you lovely farmers market community members!  Thank you for taking the time to participate in the local food movement!!  We so appreciate your dedication and support.  It means a lot to each and every farmer and vendor in the market.   Looking for inspiration for eating good clean healthy food?  The farmers market is where it’s at.  From salads to grilling ideas and delicious healthy snacks!  Be prepared to be amazed!!Did you know that cucumbers and melons are in the same family?  Yes!  It’s true.

 

With new mask recommendations in place, please be sensitive to those in our community who are taking extra precautions.  If you don’t have a mask, please give them space.

 

On Stage this Sunday, please welcome local favorite Bob Culbertson with a global music sound playing traditional instruments from around the world.

 

Time to plant your fall garden.. there are still lots of veggie, herb and native plant starts for your latest garden project.

 

For all of you organic wine and olive oil lovers.. Olivino and Terra Savia will be back at the market this Sunday!!

 

Make sure to bring you favorite kitchen and gardening tools.. Edgeworks is back street for all of your sharpening needs!!

 

It’s picnic season!!  This week’s super delicious, nutrient dense, locally produced veggies include sweet corn, sweet and hot peppers,  field cucumbers and heirloom tomatoes, tomatillos not to mention.. lettuces, microgreens, spinach, tot soi, bok choy, mustard greens, kales, collards, swiss chard, napa and other cabbages, salad radishes, turnips, carrots, beets,  leeks, potatoes, mushrooms, broccolis, cauliflowers, green beans, red onions, garlic, summer squashes, eggplants, herbs and so much more…

 

Stone fruit season is here and apples and pears are starting to arrive!! Enjoy peaches, nectarines, plums, pluots and for you berry lovers.. organic strawberries!!  Not to mention.. blackberries, FIGS, grapes and melons too! You don’t want to miss this!

 

Don’t forget the Flowers!! Or a special treat from our local food and craft vendors.

 

Look for farmer inspired products like organic nut butters, almonds and walnuts.  You will also find meats, cheeses, olive oil, wines, vinegar, dried fruits, olives, honey, herbal teas, jams, hot sauces and pesto, breads, pastries and other homemade treats are just some of what you will find at the market.

Thank you for supporting your local small farmers especially now when they need you most.  The drought and extreme temperatures have had a devastating impact. It’s important that we all do our part to save our most precious resources.. water, farmers and locally produced food.
